The Tariff Intelligence Suite
The suite gives you five interconnected tools that move you from a single HTS code to a full portfolio decision. Each tool is accessible from the Tariff Intelligence section of the left sidebar inside the Chainomics platform.Scenario Modeling
Build “what if” tariff scenarios by changing an HTS code, country of origin, or duty rate. See the resulting landed-cost delta — current rate vs. scenario rate — with the math fully exposed and sourced back to the HTS chapter and Federal Register notice.
Exposure Analysis
Map your entire product portfolio against active and proposed tariffs — Section 301 lists, Section 232 steel and aluminum surcharges, IEEPA actions, and reciprocal tariffs. Rank exposure by margin impact so you know which SKUs to address first.
Portfolio Simulator
Layer multiple tariff scenarios across your full product catalog at once. Run cost simulations across multiple SKUs and origin combinations simultaneously to see total landed-cost impact lane by lane and SKU by SKU.
Tariff Impact Analyzer
Input a product description, country of origin, and HTS code to get the applicable duty rate — including stacked Section 301 and Section 232 surcharges — plus industry impact, regional freight volume changes, and AI-driven strategic recommendations.
Policy Radar
Monitor trade regulation news in real time with updates within 30 minutes of publication. Policy Radar automatically re-scores your affected shipments when new HTS codes are implicated, and tracks active litigation that may affect duty refund eligibility.
Risk Watchlist
Monitor specific HTS codes and origin countries for tariff-policy changes. The watchlist surfaces HTS chapters and trading partners with elevated escalation probability — before the formal Federal Register notice — so you can act ahead of the change.
Tariffs & Duties Monitor
In addition to the scenario tools, the Tariffs & Duties page gives you a live feed of tariff changes and their status — Active, Upcoming, or Expired. Use it to:- Track recent tariff changes by category, effective date, and origin-to-destination corridor.
- Review average tariff rates by region and monitor week-over-week trend direction.
- Anchor your scenario assumptions to the most current published rates before running a portfolio simulation.
Build a Tariff Scenario
Identify your product
Navigate to Tariff Intelligence → Scenario Modeling in the sidebar. Enter a product description or SKU. Chainomics resolves it to an HTS code and confirms the country of origin and USMCA preference eligibility.
Layer tariff actions
Select the tariff actions to apply to the scenario: Section 301 list, Section 232 steel or aluminum surcharge, IEEPA action, or reciprocal tariff. Chainomics stacks the applicable rates and displays the cumulative landed-cost rate.
Run the portfolio
Expand the scenario to your full SKU book using the Portfolio Simulator. The simulator applies your scenario across every SKU and origin combination and surfaces annual margin at risk alongside the count of exposed SKUs.
Review findings and decide
Review the ranked exposure output. For each exposed SKU, Chainomics shows re-sourcing options — including USMCA-qualifying alternatives — with landed-cost delta and margin recaptured per unit. Decide whether to re-source, re-quote, or absorb. Every recommendation carries an audit trail linking back to the HTS code and Federal Register source.
Running a tariff scenario costs 2 credits per run. Credits are included with every plan and can be earned by uploading shipment data (CSV, PDF, or TMS sync). Ask Ms. Z — the Chainomics AI copilot — costs 1 credit per question and can answer tariff questions in plain English from any page.

Who Uses Tariff Intelligence
- Shippers — stress-test SKU portfolios before a Section 301 or 232 rate change hits landed cost.
- Freight brokers — quote landed cost with a defensible price backed by HTS and Federal Register evidence.
- Importers — discover tariff exposure before goods reach the dock, not after.
- 3PLs — centralize tariff modeling across every customer with a consistent audit trail.
